The short version
We collect the details you give us when you send an enquiry or subscribe to updates, and, once site analytics is running, some general information about how people use this website. We use it to reply to enquiries, arrange bookings and understand which pages and services people are interested in. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the providers who help us send email and measure site traffic.
What we collect
The enquiry forms
The full enquiry form on our contact page asks for your name, email address, the service you are enquiring about (wedding photography, wedding videography, events, real estate, a virtual tour, or something else), and your message. Phone number, event date and venue or suburb are optional. They help us give an accurate quote and check availability, but you can leave them blank.
There is also a short enquiry form in the footer of every page, headed Enquire. It asks only for your email address, so that you can start a conversation without filling in the longer form. We record which page you sent it from, so we know which part of the site brought the enquiry in. Nothing else is collected. It reaches us the same way the full form does, and we reply by email to ask for whatever we need to know.
Before either form will send, you also need to tick a box agreeing to this policy and consenting to be contacted about your enquiry. We record that you ticked it, and the date and time it was received, in our copy of the enquiry. That record is kept with the enquiry itself and is not used for anything else.
Both forms also check how long the page has been open before you submit, and each includes one hidden field that a genuine visitor never sees or fills in. Both exist purely to filter out automated spam, not to track how you use the page, and neither is stored anywhere beyond that immediate check.
Your IP address is used briefly to limit enquiries to five submissions an hour from the same connection, so the forms cannot be flooded with spam. It is held only in memory on the server, never written to a database, and is cleared automatically whenever the site is redeployed. We do not keep any other record of IP addresses.
The newsletter signup
The signup on the Journal asks only for your email address, and records that the Journal is where it came from. It is a mailing list rather than an enquiry: nobody replies to it, and the short enquiry form in the footer is the one to use if you want an answer. Nothing else is collected, and no automated marketing emails are sent to the address you give us. We use it to follow up with you directly, for example with prices or availability. A short note under the field links to this policy, so you can read it before you sign up, and you can ask us to stop emailing you at any time by replying to us or using the contact details below.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how people use the site: which pages are visited, which buttons and links are clicked, and which services people look into before enquiring. This helps us see what is actually driving enquiries, and where the site could be clearer. GA4 sets cookies in your browser to do this, and collects information such as your approximate location, worked out from your IP address rather than the address itself, your device and browser type, and the pages you visit. It does not collect your name, email or phone number, and it is not linked to anything you submit through the enquiry or newsletter forms.
Booking and payments
Bookings for our wedding, event and virtual tour packages are taken through Cal.com. When you choose a package on our pricing page, the Book now button opens Cal.com in a new tab, and everything you enter from that point, including your name, your email address, your phone number and the date and time you select, is collected and held by Cal.com rather than by this website. Payment is taken at the same point through Stripe. Your card details are entered into Stripe and processed by Stripe directly. This website never receives them and we never store them. We see that a booking was made, for which package, by whom, and that it was paid.
Cal.com and Stripe each hold that information under their own privacy policies and their own terms, which we do not control and which you should read if that matters to you. Real estate work and portrait sessions are not booked this way; they come through the enquiry form on this site instead, which is covered above.
How we use it
Enquiry and newsletter details are used only to respond to you, discuss a booking, and, where you have asked to be kept up to date, to send prices or availability. Analytics data is used only in aggregate, to see which pages and services attract interest and to improve the site. We do not use your personal information for anything beyond this.
Who we share it with
Enquiries and newsletter signups are sent to us through a third-party email delivery provider. Whichever provider is in use at the time only handles delivering the email, and does not use its content for any purpose of its own. When you send an enquiry from the contact page, a confirmation copy of your message is also emailed back to you, through the same provider, so you have a record of what you sent. The short footer form does not send one, because there is no message to copy back and we do not email an address we have not heard from directly.
Analytics data is processed by Google, through Google Analytics. Google publishes its own privacy policy explaining how it collects and uses this data on our behalf.
Booking details such as your name, contact details and selected date and time are held by Cal.com, and payment details are collected and processed directly by Stripe. Both publish their own privacy policies explaining how they handle this information.
We do not share, sell or rent your information to anyone else.
How long we keep it
Enquiry and newsletter emails arrive in our ordinary inbox and are kept as part of normal business correspondence. We have not set a fixed deletion schedule for these yet. If you would like your details removed, contact us below and we will delete them.
IP addresses used for spam prevention are kept only for the current one-hour window and are never written to a database, as described above.
Analytics data is retained according to the default settings inside Google Analytics. We have not finalised a specific retention period on our end, and will update this policy once we have.
Cookies
The only cookies currently set on this site come from Google Analytics. Australian law does not require a cookie consent banner before analytics runs the way some other countries do, so we have not built one. If that changes, or if we add a tool that does require consent, we will update this policy and add the appropriate notice.
Does Australian privacy law apply to us
Dennis Liu Photography is a small business. Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), most small businesses with an annual turnover under $3 million are exempt from the Australian Privacy Principles that larger organisations must follow, and that exemption is likely to apply to us. Regardless of whether it strictly applies, we have written this policy so you can see plainly what we collect and why, and we handle your information the way this page describes.
Your choices
You can ask at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us using the details below and we will action this promptly.
We do not sell your information
We have never sold, rented or traded your personal information, and we never will.

It describes how the site works today. As we add new tools, we will update it to match.
